Stormy weather…now I have that song stuck in my head

As you could probably tell from our previous blog, we had a bit of a storm here on the Oregon coast. We weathered it quite well in our tent. We lost one pole that was javelined into the ground by the 30 mph winds and we had a bit of minor water seepage (under Darrin’s mattress this time). The pole is back in thanks to the loan of a step ladder from our host and the tent is now dry thanks to our new favorite heater and some sun. Not bad considering some of the RVs were just as damp.

Our little heater drying things out. Check out our home entertainment system turned drying rack!

The rain brought out some new friends. Anyone know their official names?

A wee little one who froze solid for 5 minutes with his back left foot in the air…I think he thought I was a giant coming to get him.
And a bigger guy (about 6 inches long) who didn’t seem to care that I was taking his picture.

The storm also changed the ocean into a whole different beast from the last video.

Okay, no more videos of the ocean…I’ll find something new.

A few showers in the forecast and then back to sunny days! Which reminds me of the tale of The Vampire in the Lazy Daze Trailer…but I’ll save that for another blog.

Happy day everyone!

Beach Love 2

Another gorgeous day on the beach. We walked part of the Oregon Coastal Trail and miles and miles on the beach (and took a few advil when we got back for the old knees).

Here is my second stab at videos. We actually set-up a YouTube channel, but we need to figure out how to use it and link it with the blog. Any and all advice accepted.

Enjoy our slice of awesome!

Beach Love

So, we are officially in love with the Oregon coast. We can sit on the beach and watch seals and sea lions or we can walk for miles looking for agates. The weather and the ocean is constantly changing so each day is a new experience, and most days we never see another soul.

Here is my first attempt at posting a video. Let me know how it looks and suggestions to make it better.  Fingers crossed!

Sunsets at the Bench

Watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean has become our nightly ritual. We eat dinner, Darrin does the dishes, we walk to the lake or around the camp ground, eat our fill of fresh Blackberries by the fence, and head over to the bench where everyone gathers!

And voila! Mother Nature puts on an amazing show for us and the local wildlife.

RV-17 UPS-1

We’ve been spoiled!

Ron, the most excellent camp host of Boice-Cope County Park, where we are hanging-out next to the ocean, took pity on us last week and came by with an electric heater! We fired it up before bedtime, let the tent warm up, and ahhhhh! We could read, play cards, blog and generally hang-out comfortably in our tent even though it was in the 40’s and low 50’s!

So, enter Amazon and the UPS man. We ordered, put our campsite address in for shipping, and in drives that beautiful brown truck.

We are now the proud owners of an extension cord and an electric heater!

Life is good! (And toasty😁)

My new 2nd favorite person!
Aren’t they beautiful!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Ocean Acrobatics

This mornings walk on the beach included a seal rolling around in the waves and pelicans flying and diving. A show just for us. Absolutely beautiful to watch!

A flock of Brown Pelicans flying by. The seal refused to have his picture taken, again.

I Ain’t Nothing but a Rock Hound (apologies to Elvis)

Agates are old volcanic lava that makes cool rocks and they can be found on the Oregon coast. If you want to know more, read here:  http://oregondiscovery.com/agate-hunting.

We decided to give beach agate hunting a go. We walked miles of beach at low tide(very important as the tide here is quite strong and the undertow dangerous) looking for the right areas, they say the winter season is better because the strong storm waves move the sand out of the way. We perservered and had success!

These are the rocks we found that the locals say are agates!

Aren’t they beautiful?

We walked miles and had hours of fun on the beach. And we can do it all over again tomorrow after the tide moves things around!

The Coolest Vehicle Ever

We have heard that, and similar sentiments over the last 5 months. But for the first time the wee Rover met its match!

Enter Katrina, Jason, and the Battle Wagon, a highly modified Subaru Outback. A fun young couple with the Coolest Vehicle Ever! Our Subaru Outback is most likely shaking in the garage back in Vermont: ‘What are they going to do to me when they get home!’
