The joy of small details

Today we are working on the small details. How are we going to pack spices? How are we going to carry a bar of soap without it turning into a gooey mess? Who knew thinking about such small details would be so exciting!

After months and months and months, ok maybe years, of large details like deciding if the old rover needed a new transmissoon and what to do about house insurance it is very exciting to be down to small bits.

Should we pack a small chess set? What about backgammon?
What about battery operated toothbrushes?

How exciting!

Swearing on a cloudy afternoon

Afternoon one and all. I just spent an hour swearing at the blog while trying to set up a way for friends to sign-up via email to follow the blog. What a frustrating experience. But, I think it is now working. Give it a try and shoot me, I mean shoot me an email to let me know if it works, all of you 3 followers:)

While I’m on the topic of swearing. Have you ever tried to sign up for insurance to rent your house? Don’t do it.

I know, just breath. It will all work out. Arghhh!

Chug, chug, chug, chug

My long absence from writing is no indication that the trip has been stagnant. Oh no, no, no, no……

The trip has been in constant motion, some times in the direction we wanted and sometimes taking us to places we didn’t plan to go. But! We are still moving forward. Neither snow, nor sleet nor pouring rain has kept Darrin from plugging away at the rover renovations.  We now have a new transmission, a screen room addition almost done, a “use the travel wood stove” addition done, to keep me warm, and the rover is currently getting a new suspension, and lots of other stuff I can’t think of right now. Darrin has braved the cold and the sewing machine, with his tongue sticking out of course, to continue on.

I on the other hand have been going to work every day to bring home some bacon, literally, we love bacon:)  But! That is all about to change! I have given my notice at work! Holy shit what have I done! I have worked since I was 15, and that was quite a few years ago. I think it might take a few weeks to transition, or perhaps a few months. Ahhhhhhhhhhh…

Here goes nothing?

And we’re off…well not just yet. I’d like to say this is the beginning of our journey or something profound, but the truth is this is just another step in a very, very, very (how many verys can I use?) long pre-journey.  Starting point? I can’t really say. The idea of traveling came about slowly. There were the iconic travel shows like Ian and Charlie riding their bikes around the world, and yes, we originally planned to travel by motorcycle, but well, we aren’t as young as we used to be, so…we opted for our old Land Rover instead with a comfy homemade roof tent and heat.

You have probably noticed this isn’t going to be one of those perfect grammar blogs with all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed, that just isn’t us. And well, I’m ready to be just us and not what the world says we should be and that right there probably was the beginning of our journey. To just be us and to see the world beyond what we know.

So, if you are interested, follow along as we sort out blogging and traveling far from home. If not, no hard feelings. Have a great day!

Bimble on,

Melissa and Darrin
