All in 24 Hours – Part A

The past 24 hours have been a whirlwind. We have gone from Baja to mainland Mexico, from 0 ft to 9,000 ft, and from 72 and sunny to 38 and pouring cold rain.

But, I am getting ahead of myself. Let’s start at the very beginning…that brings to mind a song!

It all started with the Wee Rover, and us, boarding the Baja Ferry in La Paz. We were at sea level and it was a beautiful sunny 75 degree calm day. Perfect weather for the 14 hour crossing of the Sea of Cortez. The Wee Rover isn’t afraid to hang with the big rigs…she is all tucked in for the ride.

We waved goodbye to Baja. We really enjoyed our time, but new adventures are calling.

We made new friends…Estelle was from Cabo san Lucas and was travelling with her daughter and grandchildren to visit relatives.

Ate dinner in the cafeteria, standard Mexican fare of beans, rice, meat, and maize tortillas. Hi Nao…nice photo bomb!

Made more friends on deck while we were watching the ballenas (whales).

Slept on the floor with all the locals. Yup, I just woke up…thanks D…nice picture. There were probably 30 people sprawled out in our area…we were the only Gringos.

Made a new bud (Estelle’s grandson, Nao) who was psyched to be hanging with a Gringo from the far north who vivo en carro (live in car) and who had traveled all the way up to the Arctic Ocean.

After 13 hours, we finally make it to Mazatlan!!!!!

Everyone is anxious to disembark after 14 hours of being confined.

Finally, we made it to the mainland!!!! Puppy and the Wee Rover were anxious to get going on their next adventure…so off we went!

Another Ferry

Our last ferry took us from Alaska to the lower 48. We just purchased tickets from La Paz, Baja to Mazatlan! We are heading to mainland Mexico!

It’s a 14 hour overnight trip across the Bay of Cortez. Our very rough, no plan plan, is to scoot across to the Yucatan Peninsula, Guatemala, and Belize to check out the Aztec and Mayan ruins, and perhaps do a bit more snorkeling in warmer waters.

Now where did we put that Dramamine!
